The Dana Knolls neighborhood offers a very unique place to live and reminds me of what living in Dana Point must of look like 50 years ago. The homes are really cute, often single level with good size front and back yard and the large majority of these properties are custom built to their own unique style. The location is one of the best as it's within close proximity to the 5 freeway while also being a short distance to shopping areas like Costco and the Ocean Ranch shopping center in Laguna Niguel. As with most real estate in Dana Point, inventory is super tight right now so don't expect a lot of options in this neighborhoods. On average only 4 to 5 homes come up for lease here in recent years so act quickly if you find a nice home at a good value.
For the most part, rental homes in Dana Knolls start with a 12 month lease which is the industry standard for long term leases. Most landlords want to make sure they like you as a tenant, and as a tenant that you like living at the property as well. One of the trends in the Dana Point area is to take investment rental homes and offer them as furnished rentals on a short term basis. Since the city of Dana Point prohibits owners from renting a home for under a month there are a lot of properties being offered on a month-to-month basis. This is great for some who just want to get a feel for a neighborhood but not great for others who are looking for long term stability. One thing to keep in mind if you are looking at a month-to-month rental is that owners in the city of Dana Point typically raise the rents during the summer months.
