It's always a pleasure to find new communities when showing clients homes in the Dana Point area. I had a client that was looking for a condo under $500,000 and wanted some unique charm and personality to it. She also wanted to be near the downtown area and the beach. Can be a tall order since the inventory of properties under this price point is very tough and tends to be very to be very small and dark. We came across a small colony of mid-century homes that is located just north of La Crest Drive on Amber Lantern street. Here you will find 15 single level homes that were built in 1962 and have the classic look and feel of a mid-century modern architecture. Some of the features found in these homes include large floor to ceiling glass windows as pictured below, wood beam ceilings, outdoor patio area and a very open floor plan that combines the living room space with the kitchen.
The property I showed at 33961 Amber Lantern had two medium size bedrooms with nice hardwood flooring and adequate storage space. Both the bathrooms were not large but still retained the old charm from the 1960's. Keep in mind that these are smaller homes that average under 1,000 square feet so these are ideal for those looking for a second residence by the beach or for a couple wanting to live in a unique environment. The property had a detached one car garage that had additional storage space plus an individual room for laundry. One of the nicest things about this community is the common ground in between these homes. There is a large greenbelt area which runs in between the homes and is a great place for a morning walk or to take your pet for a stroll.
Another great benefit about these homes is the location. From this location it's an approximate one block to Pacific Coast Highway where you will find a variety of shops and restaurants. One more block and you are at the Dana Point Lantern District that has been newly renovated and also has a good selection of boutique stores. One more block and you are at the ocean front lookout point that overlooks the Dana Point Harbor. This kind of property is not for everyone but can be ideal for those looking for a unique affordable property by the beach.
