Dana Point is a small harbor town that is located approximately one hour south of the city of Los Angeles. In the early 1920's through 1950's many tiny houses where built as small second vacation residences for those living in Los Angeles who wanted a beach house. This was a very common trend as their main residence would be in the Los Angeles and a weekend beach house would be located in Dana Point. Tiny houses in Dana Point are normally under 1,000 square feet and feature one to two bedrooms. The bulk of these properties are located in the oldest section of town called the "Lantern Village" district. This is a popular area due to the close proximity to the downtown shopping in Dana Point that can easily be walked to from most locations in this district.
Another section of Dana Point that offers smaller homes is the Capistrano Beach area. This area is located on the very south end of the town and mainly concentrated on the ocean side of the freeway. What makes this neighborhood very popular is the large variety of houses here that range from a small two bedroom tiny house to larger ocean front mansions that overlook the water. Each of the homes have been custom designed since the 1920's which give the community a true sense of character. Many of the original beach houses were built here and it's not uncommon to quickly find these types of properties.
Currently, there is one tiny house for sale in the Capistrano Beach area that features two bedrooms and 975 square feet of living space. It's on the market for $749,900 and offers a large backyard, vaulted ceilings and nice hardwood flooring. The location is on the ocean side of the freeway and needs some TLC to bring it to it's full potential. This is a good price considering that the starting price for a single family home in Dana Point is around the $650,000 range and normally located far away from the beach.
